Telehealth & Virtual Services Informed Consent

Effective Date: February 1, 2026

This Telehealth Informed Consent (“Consent”) describes how telehealth services work and what to expect when receiving services from RC Coaching & Therapy through virtual means.

What Is Telehealth?

Telehealth includes counseling, coaching, consultation, or therapeutic sessions conducted through secure video or audio technology, rather than in person. Telehealth allows you to receive care when attending sessions in person may not be feasible.

Communication and Privacy

  • Telehealth is conducted using technology that is intended to safeguard your privacy and confidentiality with reasonable security measures.

  • Email and website forms are not secure channels and may expose personal information. Do not use them for detailed mental health disclosures or emergencies.

  • I will provide clients with secure links for telehealth sessions.

Limits of Confidentiality

  • Virtual communications are treated with the same professional confidentiality as in-person services, subject to applicable law (e.g., counseling ethical standards).

  • If you reside in California or Colorado, your rights and protections are governed by those states’ counseling privacy laws.

Emergencies and Crisis

If you or someone else is in crisis, telehealth is not appropriate for emergencies. Contact local emergency services, a crisis hotline, or a nearby urgent care facility immediately.

Legal and Licensure Boundaries

Telehealth counseling services are offered only to clients present in jurisdictions where I am legally authorized to practice at the time of service — currently California and Colorado.

  • For clients outside those states, telehealth may be limited to coaching or performance-focused sports psychology support, which is not clinical mental health treatment.

Client Consent

By participating in telehealth sessions, you acknowledge that:

  • You understand the nature and potential risks/benefits of telehealth.

  • You consent to virtual communication for your sessions.

  • You will ensure a private environment for sessions.

Counseling vs. Coaching Disclosure

RC Coaching & Therapy offers both clinical counseling and coaching services. While related, these are distinct forms of support.

Clinical Counseling

Counseling is a mental health service focused on emotional well-being, coping skills, problem resolution, and psychological growth.
Counseling may include:

  • Assessment of emotional or behavioral issues

  • Development of coping strategies

  • Support for anxiety, depression, stress, relationships, identity development

  • Work grounded in evidence-based therapeutic frameworks

Counseling services are provided within the scope of my professional credentials:

  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) — Colorado

  • School Counselor with PPS Credential — California & Colorado

Coaching

Coaching is educational and performance-oriented growth support. It focuses on:

  • Goal setting and accountability

  • Enhancing awareness and motivation

  • Career performance, life transitions, habit development

  • Sports psychology-informed performance support

Coaching is not clinical therapy or mental health treatment, does not involve diagnosis of mental illness, and does not treat conditions such as clinical depression, severe anxiety, trauma, or other disorders.

Which Is Right for You?

  • Choose Counseling if you seek support for emotional wellness or psychological change.

  • Choose Coaching if you want structured growth toward personal or performance goals.

If your needs shift during the course of services, we will openly discuss the most appropriate referral or change in focus.

School-Based vs. Private Practice Services Clarification

At RC Coaching & Therapy, I work with clients in private practice settings and provide school-related counseling support distinct from my roles within educational systems.

Private Practice Counseling

In private practice, I offer individual counseling, coaching, and performance support remotely or in person, guided by my clinical training and LPC credential (Colorado) and PPS school counseling training (California & Colorado).

School Counseling

If I provide consulting, guidance, or support within a school or educational system, those services are governed by:

  • The school’s policies

  • Educational confidentiality standards

  • My PPS credential permit (California & Colorado)

School counseling services may include:

  • Short-term adjustment support

  • Consultation with students or guardians within school context

  • Coordination with school staff

These do not replace private practice counseling. Private practice counseling services are independent of any school affiliation and governed by clinical licensure standards.
